Tannoy

Symphony 440 Design Group shares immense pleasure in being authorized with Tannoy, a British manufacturer of loudspeakers and public-address (PA) systems. Tannoy was founded by Guy Fountain in London, England as Tulsemere Manufacturing Company in 1926 which, later moved to Coatbridge, Scotland in the 1970s. In 2015, the Music Group company acquired Tannoy along with TC Group which itself had previously acquired Tannoy in 2002.

Later on, The Company came up with a new plan to shut down the Coatbridge facility and relocate the same to Manchester, England. However, later in 2016, it was confirmed that Tannoy would continue its manufacturing in Scotland, with a brand-new manufacturing facility planned.

The name Tannoy is a syllabic abbreviation of tantalum alloy, a material used in a type of electrolytic rectifier developed by the company. The brand, trademarked by 10th March 1932, The company had got registered as Guy R. Fountain Limited from Tulsemere Manufacturing Company.

The Company, became one of the most common and highly recognized names during World War II when it was supplying PA systems to the armed forces.

Tannoy speakers are notable for their ‘Dual Concentric’ design with its tweeter behind the centre of the medium or bass driver and very much reputed for the Tannoy studio monitors.

Popular reviews on Tannoy speakers:

Tannoy HTS-101 XP:

This compact surround sound package is a flexible, fantastic all-rounder which loses its predecessor’s glossy shine, but adds extra sparkle in the sound department. The design of the four satellites and subwoofer has had a welcome makeover, swapping the MDF cabinet’s shiny glossy finish for a smarter, brushed-look version. We like the more mature look, which is handily discreet for our home theatre setup.”

-What Hi-Fi?

Tannoy Eclipse 3:

“With good budget floorstand speakers a rarity, these Tannoy’s are the best we’ve heard in a while, blending perfectly for all kinds in home theatre setups. These are very much budget boxes built down to a price, but within those restrictions, they’re relatively solid and nicely finished. The price point also limits the choice of finishes – in this case, there’s just one, and that’s Black Oak.”
