The BCM 104 from Neumann is a large-diaphragm Condenser Studio recording microphone. This mic is specially designed for broadcasting applications such as for radio announcers and show hosts.
Being incorporated with a pop screen behind the head grille and shock insulated capsule, these mics guarantee optimum speech reproduction.
The design features of BCM 104 are rather different from other microphones. Instead of having a transformer to power the mic, this studio recording microphone has an electronic circuit which can manage massive sound pressure levels as high as 138 dB—producing very low self-noise of only 7 dB. BCM 104 ensures balanced outputs without any hum interference or distortions.
Neumann BCM 104 has a very linear frequency response. This studio recording microphone is further provided with few internal control switches which allow for adjustments based on its proximity to other equipment and accordingly tune the sensitivity.
The receiver head grille exhibits a unique movement to help in speedy cleaning, thereby maintaining constant hygiene.
The pop screen is mounted on a casing before this head grille to secure the cardioid capsule from air blasts, plosives and such other damage. The mouthpiece has a flexible mount that supports all kinds of standard microphone arms.
The most favoured method of mounting the BCM 104 is to suspend it from a standard studio boom arm. This studio recording microphone is further protected against structure-borne noise through an elastic suspension provided in its capsule as well as mic mount.
