Mr. Jitendra Mouli, an IT consultant returning from the US had a spare room on his terrace with a bar counter and a refrigerator, which he wanted to turn into a luxury home theater. After meeting with other home theater room design teams Mr. Jitendra decided to go with the Symphony440DesignGroup consultants for a better balance between quotation price and service quality. The consultant team conducted extensive acoustic analysis to figure out optimal speaker and subwoofer placement for the home theater setup. We also made sure to preserve the classic, clean look for the home theater interiors and imparted a subtle ambience using soft lighting.

To deliver a home theater room design with best-in-class acoustics, and fine-tuned dusky lighting that preserves a calm ambience, capable of giving even the best recording studios a run for their money, suited for family entertainment, and delivered within budget. All rounded off with a reliable, segregated electrical supply for the AV system to ensure that there are zero complaints.

Acoustics & Audio-Video

  1. As the first step in creating lush and sound-friendly home theater room design, we put in wooden flooring throughout to help sound balancing and give the home theater a warm, organic feel.

  2. Next we set a front wall about 2’ from the original concrete wall, for screen mounting. This was finished  in black fabric to make it blend in and direct attention to the screen.

  3. The side and back walls were finished with plain fabric and followed two levels – a set made at a higher depth to support the surround speakers, and another set designed as “feature walls” with infills to break the monotony of plain fabric finished walls. We put in a harmonious zig-zag pattern on the feature walls – these were finished in dark brown fabric and enhanced with warm, white cove lights. The rest of the walls were finished with beige fabric.

  4. Next for the home theater ceiling design, we put in a false ceiling also finished in fabric. The ceiling was made with contrasting levels to maintain the integrity of the design, and enhance overall home theater acoustics while also making for a spectacular visual.

  5. Finally, the home theater room layout had a window on the right-hand wall with hinged shutters. These shutters were flushed with the wall design so that they blended in with the home theater interiors.

  6. We mounted a 135” diagonal, acoustically transparent screen on the fabric-finished font wall. The screen covered the front wall from end-to-end, enabling high-quality viewing.

  7. All the audio-visual equipment along with the AV rack was placed behind the screen, to be accessed via a fabric door. To help heat dissipation in the AV rack’s receiver, we also installed a cooling fan.

  8. Next, we installed speakers for the home theater. We accurately installed two Paradigm Monitor SE 3000F Tower speakers over a sturdy ledge after detailed technical calculations using our High Tech Audio software. For the center speaker we used a Paradigm Monitor SE 2000C, installed at an appropriate height to match its left and right counterparts.

  9. We used Four in-wall Paradigm C-65 IW speakers for surround sound – two pairs were mounted on the left and right walls, and an additional pair was mounted on the rear wall. We were able to integrate these speakers into the home theater room design paneling so they don’t stand out, the placement was made strategically based on the room’s acoustics and layout to allow for a full and rich sound.

  10. For the ceiling atmos speakers, we used 2 pairs of Paradigm C-65R speakers. These were flushed with the fabric-finished false ceiling to avoid visual distraction. We also fine-tuned the angling of these speakers to bring out an immersive 360-degree audio experience, complete with captivating overhead sound.

  11. To boost the audio with a solid bass sound, we used two Paradigm Defiance V10 subwoofers hidden behind the screen. We experimented with multiple points for the subwoofers before arriving at the optimal placement to ensure deep and full bass.

  12. The entire audio-visual home theater setup was powered by a Denon AVC X-3800H receiver and controlled by a single DP switch. These were placed behind the screen and covered with a fabric door.

  13. To provide a quality viewing experience within the softly-lit home theater interiors, we installed an Epson TW 9400 4k projector to elevate the home cinema and achieve vibrant, accurate colors.

  14. Finally, we placed a single row of three recliners from Recliners India in front of the bar counter, which was positioned towards the rear wall. The recliners were placed at just the right distance from the screen to minimize visual fatigue and enhance viewing.
