Mr. Pradeep and his family of 4, wanted a home theater media room as a multipurpose entertainment space. The room had a large French sliding glass door as the main entry to the right corner, a 6’ wide window on the rear wall and a niche towards the right wall, where the client wanted a snack counter with a washbasin, mini fridge, microwave oven, and storage spaces.
To create a fully custom home theater plus entertainment hub from the ground up, complete with a snack counter, fridge, microwave, and food storage space. From mixing wood and fabric to enhance aesthetics and optimize sound diffusion and scattering, to incorporating glass windows into the design and adding a touch panel to operate the AV system - this was a special project for our Home Theater Company.
Acoustics & Audio-Video
Our Home Theater Architects put in a 7.2.4 audio video system (7 surround speakers, 2 subwoofers, 4 atmos speakers). For viewing, we used a BenQ 4K projector and mounted an edgeless 165” projector screen, enhanced with surrounding cove lights.
Overall Implementation
- The interiors of the custom home theater required a combination of planning for aesthetics and ensuring technical acoustic requirements.
- After putting in the wood flooring, we ran a horizontal band of fabric paneling at the center of the walls, about 4’ height. The portion of the wall below this was finished in grey, and matched the paneling to give a subtle finish to the movie theater room design.
- Each wall panel was enhanced by 2-way lights bordered with a teak wood finish, to give it a pleasant aura.
- The screen wall was built 2’4” from the front concrete wall and finished in pure black fabric with cove lights all around, to help highlight the screen.
- To break the monotony of the wall paneling and to enhance both sound diffusion and absorption, we introduced 3 series of vertical rafters, spaced equally, and made from premium teak wood to contrast them against the grey backdrop.
- The home theater ceiling design was finished in two levels and acoustically treated to optimize sound quality. The peripheral border was 9’3” and finished in pure black fabric, the center dropped down to 9’ and was finished in grey fabric with surrounding cove lights. This gave the illusion of a free-floating center fabric. The AC cassette was also placed at the center of the ceiling.
- The movie theater room had an entry door and two French glass windows on the rear wall, both of which were covered with black-out curtains and acoustically treated for home theater soundproofing and Acoustics respectively.
- For custom home theater audio, we placed two Definitive Technology BP9040 Tower Speakers on the left and right, and a Definitive Technology CS 9060 speaker at the center. We used two Definitive Technology Descend DN10 High End subwoofers, and an AV rack with a Denon AVC X-3700 AV receiver and Marantz MM7055 Power amplifier. All of this equipment was placed behind the screen.
- For surround sound we used 4 Paradigm Monitor SE Atom speakers. These could not be placed level with the seating so two each were mounted on the left, right, and rear walls. All the speakers were black in color to blend with the interiors, they were mounted above the window lintel height for mobility, and perfectly angled towards the seating for exceptional audio.
- For ceiling atmos speakers, we used 2 Paradigm C-65R speakers flush with the false ceiling, with grille plates painted the same color.
- The screen was an edgeless, Acoustically Transparent projection screen 165” diagonal in size, enhanced by ambient cove light all around it. For high-def viewing we put in a 4k BenQ W1700 Projector.
- Finally, the seating was in two rows. The first row had four manual recliners and the second row had four electric recliners, all finished in deep blue leather. The second row was raised to a 14” height on a ply-built platform, positioned opposite to the entry door with a 6” step on the side, allowing room for circulation in the movie theater room design.
- In the niche towards the right wall, we put in an area for snacks and refreshments, complete with a counter, mini-fridge, microwave oven, drawers to store food, and a washbasin so the client could have long, comfortable viewing sessions in his media room.

Interior Design
Our Professional Home Cinema Design team was involved in Mr. Pradeep’s custom home theater project right from the bricking stage, enabling us to deliver a fully custom home theater that covered all of the client’s needs. We experimented with new aesthetic dimensions and acoustic arrangements by combining different materials for the wall paneling, created a smooth look for the custom home theater while also optimizing sound diffusion, and went over-and-above by consolidating all aspects of the room into a single, clean design. Mr. Pradeep was thrilled with the AV quality, the look and feel, and all the amenities provided.
