With a Home Theater Size of about 42’ x 21’, Dr. Channa Reddy gave us ample opportunity to experiment with the audio video combination and its acoustic interiors. With such a large room as his, our main mission like always was to deliver the utmost overwhelming theater-like Audio Visual experience. Along with having a home theater set up, Dr. Channa Reddy desired the room to serve as a socializing space as well. For the same, the inhouse Architect designed the rear wall with a sleek modern bar unit topped with a lavish bar counter, while the walls and ceiling carried a pleasant fabric finish with lights running through and through all around.
To build a high–end home theater through premium QSC systems, with well-planned and technically calculated acoustics to achieve higher new standards of sound quality. The proposed 180” fixed frame 16:9 screen should engulf the client into the movies. To further deliver outstanding results, the classic Sony 4K projector was a cherry on top of the cake through its immense detailed realistic images.
Acoustics & Audio-Video
Our technical team at Symphony 440 Design Group took a keen interest in converting Dr. Channa Reddy’s Cinema room with Extraordinarily Large Home Theater Size, into a user-friendly room with negligible sound bleeding and echoes, and suitable premium sound systems.
- Considering the Home Theater Size, the plan was to have 8 fixed recliner seating over the two stepped concrete platform already built on site previously. This also gave us ample space in the front to have casual seating as per requirement in the future.
- To give our client a sense of coziness and warmth, rather than feeling lost in such a big room, the architect thoughtfully confirmed on the flooring to be an 18mm thick acoustic carpet of a shade darker than that of the fabric walls.
- The Designed AV system layout included QSC speakers of 3 in the front, 6 surrounds and 4 ceiling atmos, and 2 QSC SB-1180 subwoofers, all channeled to 3 QSC amplifiers and Anthem AV Processor.
- To achieve a neat seamless front screen wall, the triple QSC SC-1150 front speakers and 2 QSC SB-1180 subwoofers were hidden behind the finished screen wall, with just the 180” big screen mounted on top.
- To get good absorption and reflection levels, our designers proposed an acoustic filing in the screen wall offset consisting of Rockwool and Polywool infills with a specially made diffuser in between. We arrived at this diffuser design after detailed technical calculations planned to be carved out from Rubberwood through our specialized carpenters.
- Since Home Theater Size is big, the false ceiling level was also fixed at 11’ from the finished floor, which further enhanced the luxury and added great volume to the home theater.
- The side walls had 7” thick panelling and each wall carried 3 QSC SR-800 surround speakers angled towards the seating to perfectly immerse the end users in the sound.
- After several acoustical testing, our designers decided to treat only the central 6’ portion of the wall, leaving the remaining areas empty with air gaps. This 6’ area had alternative panels of absorption and diffusion filled with pre-planned infills of rockwool and polywool of different densities as per technical calculations.
- To render smooth and uniform finish to the walls, all the acoustic treatments were topped with foam and covered with acoustic fabric of selected colour as per finalized interiors.
- The false ceiling, finished in fabric, had 4 in-wall QSC AC-C8T atmos speakers with good lighting layout. Internally, there was an ample 2’ space till the ceiling for us to carry out good levels of acoustics.
- The ceiling treatment had 4 different components, mixed and matched through technical analysis to reach good harmony levels and high sound quality. The 4 components are namely, the 1’ deep bass trap, 2’x4’ hanging plyboards, 2’x4’ hanging wood wool boards and 4’x4’ pyramidal diffuser.
- Before finishing the home theater, our technical team exercised cable continuity tests to check correct wiring to each system. All of these cable wires were drawn to the 3 QSC amplifiers namely QSC DPA 4.3, QSC DPA 4.2 and QSC SPA 4-100, regulated by the Anthem AVM 70 AV Processor.
- The amplifiers and AV processor was well supported by the AV rack hidden behind the front screen wall.
