Mr. Madhusudhan wanted a home theater room on the top floor of his 3-storey commercial-residential building. Our Media Room Designers worked closely with the client and worked around compromises to deliver the best home theater design complete with sound-proofed, futuristic interiors.
To convert a structurally challenging room into an acoustically sound home cinema with clean and attractive aesthetics, complete with expertly calibrated audio to deliver a top-of-the-line Audio Visual experience.
Acoustics & Audio-Video
The Symphony440 consultant team introduced a 7.2.2 audio video system (7 surround speakers, 2 subwoofers, 2 ceiling atmos speakers) and Denon AVC X3700H for high-quality listening. We mounted a 120” edgeless screen with an Optoma UHD 35+ projector for an exceptional and vivid picture.
Overall Implementation
The main objective for the home cinema room design’s interiors was to hide the various structural protrusions on the walls and give prominence to the ambient wall lighting – which imparted a futuristic, arena-like quality to the home theater.
The wall was divided into 4 horizontal bands of varying thickness and home theater acoustic panels were expertly placed – the panel closest to the floor was 3.5” thick, and each panel above projected out by a distance of 1.5” so that the cove lighting of the upper panel lit up the panel below it. Each panel was given a black laminate border, which along with the cove lights gave the illusion of nested, concentric lighting to the interiors of the home cinema room design.
The floor was finished in carpeting and the home theater false ceiling was finished in fabric in two levels – the first level was 9’ in height and bordered the room’s periphery by a 10” width. The rest of the ceiling was dropped down at 8’8” with surrounding cove lighting. We placed a one-way split AC cassette at the center.
For audio, we wall-mounted 3 Definitive Technology DI 5.5LCR speakers flushed at the same level in the left, right, and center of the screen which was mounted at the front on a fabric-finished wall panel.
Below the screen we placed a 5’ wide AV rack carrying a Denon AVC X-3700H AV receiver and other supporting equipment. On either side of the AV rack we installed two black Definitive Technology Descend DN10 subwoofers to blend into the backdrop.
We used a total of 4 Definitive technology DI 5.5S in-wall surround speakers. Two of these were placed on the left, right, and rear wall each and mounted flush with the wall panels.
To give a dimension of height to the sound, we installed two Definitive Technology DI 6.5R ceiling atmos speakers, leveled flush with the false ceiling with grille plates painted so the speakers didn’t appear to protrude from the ceiling.
- For viewing, we mounted a 120” edgeless screen from Elite Screens Company on the fabric finished wall paneling and installed an Optoma UHD 35+ projector.
- The seating from Recliners India were a highlight of the interiors, being finished in lush dark green leather that blended perfectly with the home theater’s dark, ambient interiors.
- The seating was in two rows with three recliners per row. The second row was raised to a 9” height on a ply-built platform which was positioned opposite to the entry door. This was a compromise due to the constraints of the room but our Home Theater Engineers were able to work around this by lifting up the seating platform to ensure good circulation in the space between the entry door, which was soundproofed, and the platform.
- Overall, the home theater interiors had a single-shade color theme all around – with grey fabric for the walls, ceiling, and carpet, and black color used for all the audio equipment.

Interior Design
Mr. Madhusudhan’s home cinema room design was quite challenging for our Theater Room Engineering team - the site was located 250+ kms from their Head office in Bangalore and the room itself was quite small, leading to structural challenges regarding the placement of audio equipment and the screen. However, the team was able to work around these challenges and conduct extensive home theater acoustic treatment and Professional Audio-Video Calibration to ensure a high-quality viewing experience. The clean and futuristic interiors were also a major highlight of this home theater project.
