Mr. Sandeep Sunkara wanted to convert the family room on the third floor of his villa into a dedicated home theater in which to enjoy sports and movies. The client had specific requirements for the theater room design, including an ultra HD projector for the AV system, and was working within a budget. Our High End Home Theater Designers were able to balance the budgetary and spatial constraints, such as narrow room width, to deliver a top-notch home theater boasting luxury interiors with a perfectly balanced and aligned audio-video system.
To build a luxury home theater capable of delivering high-end entertainment, with ultra HD video, clean home cinema acoustics powered by a deep bass, and smooth interiors. All within the client’s budget, and an acoustically challenging layout. Following extensive speaker demos, optimizations, and calculations - this is exactly what our Home Theater Engineering team delivered.
Acoustic Interiors
- To Start with,we put in laminated wood for the flooring to provide an easy to maintain surface and give the home theater a natural, contemporary aesthetic.
- Next, The Walls were acoustically treated with 4.5” thick wall paneling throughout the room for optimized acoustics, and two strips of continuous lighting running from the left to the right wall across the ceiling for ambience. We finished the entire home theater in Dark blue fabric.
- The Entire Ceiling was again finished in fabric with custom built acoustical sound diffusers, absorbers hidden behind it.
- We also designed a custom, movable AV rack to accommodate the UST 4K Projector plus the center speaker, AV receiver, gaming stations, and other units. This way the projector could be pushed back into the AV rack when not in use to minimize wear-and-tear and preserve integrity.
- We put in a custom snack counter for 3 people and a three-seater reclining sofa to enhance the viewing experience. The room also had two windows, one behind the screen wall and one on the right wall. We preserved access to these windows via openable shutters which were finished flush with the wall panels. Finally, we put in a dark curtain at the entrance of the passageway leading to the attached bathroom, to block light from entering into the movie room.
- Overall, we kept the interiors of the home theater subtle and clean, as the AV system, furniture, and snack counter already added character.
Audio-Video
- We used impactful BP 9040 tower speakers from Definitive Technology on the left and right of the home theater, and paired them with Definitive Technology CS 9060 at the center speaker.
- The Bipolar SR 9040 surround speakers from Definitive Technology were mounted on the interior wall panelling next to the recliner seating. The rear surround speakers were two Definitive Technology DT 6.5LCR models mounted flush with the acoustic paneling for clear sound panning. For the elevated Dolby Atmos overhead sound we used two Paradigm C-65R speakers.
- To deliver the best possible Low frequency audio(.1), We used reference quality PB 2000 Pro subwoofer from SVS. The Subwoofer was placed on the rear wall corner and was optimized using MiniDSP 2×4 HD.
- Amplification and AV Processing duty was handled by the capable Marantz SR 6015 receiver and controlled by a single 32A Electrical DP switch. Marantz was naturally a perfect partner for the Definitive Technology Loudspeaker System considering they are designed and sold by the same
Masimo International Group. - Then, We installed a cool looking 106” Screen from Elite Screens company and an ultra short throw Epson LS-500B projector for cinema-grade viewing. This was a particularly large-bodied projector that couldn’t be ceiling-mounted and had to be placed in front of the screen. For this
we performed careful calculations to align the projector with the screen and the end result with regard to picture quality is nothing short of spectacular.
Interior Design
Our Home Theater Engineers were able to successfully balance Mr. Sandeep’s vision and the acoustic constraints of the narrow home theater room design to deliver a rich audio-video system with a deep, clean bass; and an ultra HD picture. We conducted extensive acoustic analysis and worked closely with Mr. Sandeep to sample several AV components. We also enhanced the homeliness of the space by putting in a snack counter and subtle interiors. The result - a luxury home movie theater with expertly calibrated audio, vivid on-screen picture, and all the amenities needed to enjoy movies with the whole family.
